The primary difference is that 2K resolution can refer to more than one image size. For this reason, 2K is generally accepted as an umbrella term. It is typically used when referring to the motion picture industry, as many films are projected at this standard. These resolutions are defined by the Digital Cinema Initiatives, or DCI, a governing body comprised of major motion picture studios.

12k resolution size

Of the three 2K image resolutions, CinemaScope is the smallest, as it has the least amount of vertical pixels, while DCI 2K native resolution is the largest. Standard DCI 2K native resolution is 2, x 1, pixels. This results in a total pixel count of 2, In comparison, DCI 4K resolution is 4, x 2, pixels, resulting in a total pixel count of 8, With horizontal and vertical dimensions twice as large as 2K, a DCI 4K image has four times the total resolution of a 2K image. In some cases, the terms UHD and 4K will be used interchangeably.

The two resolutions are technically not the same, however. Ultra high definition refers to television while 4K refers to digital cinema projection. However, a 2K image is slightly wider than p, making it the larger of the two resolutions.

Whereas DCI 2K native resolution contains 2, pixels along the horizontal axis, p has only 1, pixels. Thus, p or Full HD is roughly six percent smaller than 2K in total area — 2, total pixels compared to 2, total pixels. A 2K display can transform a laptop or desktop computer. For one, it allows you to view Full HD media content at full screen. You will also find that the larger image resolution allows for easier multi-tasking particularly if you only have one screen and content creation.

Applications like Adobe's Creative Suite work better with larger screen resolutions, as you can work with larger file sizes at full screen. How can we help you? What is the Best 4K Monitor for Gaming? What is 3G?

What is Android?Rumors claim that Apple will introduce a new iPhone model in September with a 12 megapixel camera. Aside from "that's more megapixels! Read on to see Jeff Gamet's explanation. Your next iPhone could have a 12 megapixel camera. Is that a big deal? A megapixel is a million pixels, and each pixel makes up a single point in your photographs.

That means an 8 megapixel camera, like the one used in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus captures images with 8 million pixels. The rumored iPhone 6s and its 12 megapixel camera will snap photos that are packed with 12 million pixels. When it comes to megapixels, more isn't necessarily better. It's certainly bigger, but that doesn't equate to better. Instead, it's the camera lenses and the quality of the sensor that captures light to convert into your photos.

An 8 megapixel photo from a high quality lens and sensor combo will look much better than the same photo from a 12 megapixel image shot with mediocre lenses and sensors. Let's start with the iPhone 6's 8 megapixel photos for a little comparison.

In this case, image sizes are measured in pixels multiplied together.

12k resolution size

An 8 megapixel image is pixels wide and pixels tall. When you multiply the two numbers together you get your overall megapixel size; in this case, that's 8. A 12 megapixel image is pixels wide and pixels tall. That's definitely bigger, but without some context it doesn't mean much. Let's look at some real world photo uses to put the comparison into perspective. These numbers are what I'd call the high end of acceptable, or potential maximum image sizes.

Go larger, and your images will start to get that jaggy pixelated look. Since I like to see the best print quality possible, I try to stay below the high end for image sizes. There isn't, however, anything stopping you from printing a photo at a larger size; just remember the larger you go the lower the overall image quality will be.

That gets us to the big question: Will iPhone photos taken with a 12 megapixel camera be better than those taken with an 8 megapixel iPhone camera?

The answer to that is a definite maybe. Assuming Apple uses the same lenses and a sensor that doesn't offer overall better light capture, then the next iPhone will offer bigger photos and not better photos. Assuming the 12 megapixel sensor Apple uses is better—and the optics get an upgrade, too—then your next iPhone will snap overall better photos. What you won't get, no matter what camera upgrades the next iPhone offers, will be a fix for weak photography skills.

Apple still hasn't figured out how to keep your fingers out of your shots, or to put heads back when they're cut off at the top of a pic.

You're still on your own for those. What's a Megapixel? More is Better, Right? How Big is a 12 Megapixel Photo? How Much Does it Cost? Is it Worth it?This article lists computer monitor screen resolutions that are defined by standards or in common use. Most of them use certain preferred numbers.

Montblanc e-Strap [4].By David Nield T You might not have given the screen resolution much thought as you settled down to Rogue One over Christmas, but films projected in cinemas are set at certain quality levels just like the movies playing from your smartphone or the Apple TV set up at home.

So what resolution are you looking at when you take a trip to the local multiplex or independent? And how much better is it going to get over the next few years? We're here to answer all your questions about movie resolutions both now and into the future. Most cinemas made the jump from film reels to digital projectors at the start of the s, as the technology became cheap enough and good enough to keep movie-going audiences entertained.

A lot of the benefits are obvious - being able to download new releases over the internet, for example, rather than shipping reels through the post. While a lot of film directors still like to have their films shot on film and projected on reels - including Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino - it seems as though the die has been cast. You can still find cinemas using film, but it's getting harder.

List of True 16:9 Resolutions

The resolution of a movie shown in a digital cinema is measured by the horizontal pixel count, so 2, x 1, pixels for 2K or 4, x 2, pixels for 4K. Note that there's a slight difference between this and the consumer 4K standard used on televisions and streaming services, which usually refers to frames of 3, x 2, pixels.

Confusing, right? The quality of the movie your watching will depend on other factors, like the screen size and available lighting, but those resolutions are at the core. For comparison purposes, 70mm film - still considered by many to be the gold standard - is roughly equivalent to a 12K resolution in digital terms, so digital's still got some catching up to do on that score. It's difficult to say without ringing them up and asking, but most major cinemas in the UK and a lot in the US will now use 4K digital projectors, and will have been doing so for several years.

The standards of digital cinema are controlled by a body called Digital Cinema Initiativeswhich a lot of the major studios have a stake in. The idea is to put across a certain set of standards for projecting and displaying a digital movie that cinemas can then follow, guaranteeing a particular level of quality for the filmmakers and audiences.

For example, the best screens in most Odeon cinemas use 4K projectors producing almost 9 million pixels, but the difference between a projector and the smart TV you might have at home is that the screen size isn't fixed - it's up to cinemas how big the picture appears.

IMAX demonstrates this difference rather well: it can be used with 70mm film as well, but when recorded digitally, the screen resolution is only 2K or 4K. It's the huge screen, powerful magnification and other tweaks that make the IMAX experience so immersive. And - as with your smart TV at home - it's only when the screen gets to a certain size that you can notice any difference between 2K, 4K, IMAX and film reel projections anyway.

On smaller screens, the quality your eyes can detect will be more or less the same. There's no huge rush to take the next step. Most of us are still drooling over having a single 4K monitor setup in our gaming setup, but these guys over at Windows Lab not only set up a 12k Resolution but tested out a DX11 game at 60 Hz constant 30Hz is the 4k standard!

Though there are quite a few reservations we at Wccftech had with the setup in general, hats off for the amazing setup and Custom Driver Build used to make this possible. Without further ado, the 12k setup:.

Apparently this entire Idea started when testing out these loaned Sharp 4k Ultra HD displays they decided to take the 4 out of the 4k and replace it with a 12, and thus was born the 12k Gaming Resolution. They also had to take out the psu from the case to make room for the additional horsepower but no pain no gain right?

This is as far as where a loaded gaming fanatic might have gone to achieve 12k resolution when the real problem appeared.

12K Resolution Tested with 3x 4k Monitors and Triple HD 7970s in Crossfire

The Crossfire and Eyefinity drivers were clearly not designed to handle such conditions and refused to budge. Instead of giving the windows team decided to implement their own Custom Made Driver Build tailored to the task of implementing this 12k setup exactly. Apparently they were able to play the game perfectly stably at 12k 60 Hz for few minutes every time till the PSU reset due to power overload. Although further tests could not be done due to the fact that they had to ship the monitors back, the 1.

Though we at Wccftech look with reverent eyes to these pioneers, we still feel that some negligence was done to something this epic. By Usman Pirzada. Share Tweet Submit. How the 12k Setup could have fared better. Thirdly we feel that a choice of 2x Titans 3 Gb Vram Apiece or 3x Titans 2gb Vram Apiece would have made a far better choice with the 12k setup able to play even most games at maxed out settings.

Finally, Kudos to the team.PC gaming is all out extreme performance and eye-popping visuals. First, I was thinking it would be awesome to try 4K multi-mon gaming.

Second, I wanted to see how the 4K gaming experience would change when the screen refresh rate was pushed from 30 Hz to 60 Hz. Finally, I thought it would be amazing if I could push a tri-mon 4K setup to 60 Hz. Things were about to get real interesting. The first question that I had was how I was going to connect these displays to a PC. I then pondered how much graphics horsepower I would need to run a DirectX 11 game at 30 Hz the highest frame rate possible over single-stream connections.

A display surface with a resolution of 11, x 2, — amazing! I opened the Display Control Panel and confirmed that Windows now saw this Eyefinity display group as a giant display surface:.

Now I was about to find out how the same graphics hardware would perform with three 4K displays running at 30 Hz. I decided to run Dirt3 since the panoramic effect of 3 displays would work well with that game.

Would this setup be able to hold 30 Hz with a single AMD graphics card? I was about to find out! Running Dirt3 at 11, x 2, with settings maxed out resulted in a frame rate just below the 30 Hz target. I closely examined my graphics settings, and was able to turn off some features that optimized the gameplay experience. Settling on medium to high overall settings I was able to hold an average frame rate of about 35fps.

This was an awesome setup, but I was also wondering how the 4K 60 Hz gaming experience would feel. With 4K display technology just emerging in the US this year, this technology is still very new. This is due to bandwidth limitations inherent with the existing standardized specifications for these display connectivity busses. In order to support a 60 Hz display refresh rate at 4K you need to use more than one stream.

The important thing about MST is that each stream display seen above can be driven at higher refresh rates, 60 Hz in this case. By using AMD Eyefinity these two display surfaces can be unified as a single 3, x 2, virtual display capable of full 60 Hz refresh rate.

Wow, the textures in the game and the fluid motion at 60 Hz was just astounding. The events that would follow would push the limits of everything we had at our disposal.TV manufacturers pushed to make 4K a new standard by Ina transmission network's capability to carry HDTV resolution was limited by internet speeds and relied on satellite broadcast to transmit the high data rates.

The demand is expected to drive the adoption of video compression standards and to place significant pressure on physical communication networks in the near future.
